In continuation of its ongoing free eye screening, treatment and surgery programme in Benue State, Eunice Spring of Life Foundation (ESLF), in partnership with Tulsi Chanrai Foundation, last Saturday, identified 23 more cases for surgery after carrying out 107 eye consultations at both the Makurdi and Gboko centres of the exercise.
Explaining the rationale for the exercise, the Programme Manager of ESLF, Mr. Tine Agernor, stated that the free health care was an affirmation of the genuine desire of ESLF’s Founder and First Lady of Benue State, Dr. Eunice Ortom, that less privileged and vulnerable persons have access to quality health care and other benefits through her Foundation.
Addressing beneficiaries of the programme at the General Hospital, Gboko centre, Mr. Agernor pointed out that the choice of location for the intervention to ensure an even spread to enable every part of the State feel the impact of the Foundation’s work.
The Team Lead of ESLF Medical Team, Dr. Akor Rijam, expressed commitment to taking the outreach to more communities in Benue State to improve the health of the people.
At the Makurdi centre, one of the members of ESLF’s medical outreach team, Dr. Samuel Tor-Agbidye, confirmed that ESLF had been in the vanguard of ameliorating the plight of the vulnerable through its various humanitarian programmes especially in health. Dr. Agbidye advised participants to eat healthy, take regular exercise, observe personal and environmental hygiene and avoid consumption of alcohol. He admonished them to go for immunization, have routine medical check-up and take adequate rest lasting up to, at least, 6 hours a day to relax their eyes and other body parts.
On his part, ESLF’s Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Mr. Simon Orjime, further explained that ESLF had been impacting lives through its core thematic areas of Health, Education, Governance and Economic Empowerment.
The free eye test and treatment, targeted at improving the health status of people in the State, is in furtherance of ESLF’s Free Medical Outreach which has, so-far, recorded a total of more than 70,000 consultations and over 3000 surgeries since 2015.
The target of the current free eye screening exercise is, basically, to identify, at least, 100 persons for eye surgery to be executed at the Tulsi Chanrai Hospital in Abuja which ESLF is partnering with for the current programme.
