ESLF TAKES ADVOCACY TO KWENEV COMMUNITY TO MARK INT’L DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD 2020.

As the world marks International Day of the Girl Child 2020, the people of Kwenev Community in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State have made a strong commitment to girl child education in their community.

They made this known today at an event in their community organised by Eunice Spring of Life Foundation (ESLF) in partnership with Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN) Benue State chapter to mark the global event.

Addressing inhabitants of the community, Programme Manager of ESLF, Tine Agernor, said the Founder of the organisation and wife of the Governor of Benue State is committed to the welfare of vulnerable persons including girls which, he pointed out, spurred her to set up ESLF.

Mr. Agernor pointed out that the Foundation has been carrying out this primary mandate through interventions in its various thematic areas of health, education, governance and economic empowerment with special focus on agriculture and environment.

Responding, the Ortar’u’Kwenev (the traditional head of Kwenev), Orchivirigh David Msende, expressed delight that the community was selected for such an event and promised that the people would put to good use the knowledge gained from the advocacy visit by ESLF. He appealed for the provision of borehole in the community to save women and girls from the regular risk of rape and other forms of Gender Based Violence they suffer when they go to fetch water from distant places.

Highpoints of the event included advocacy and sensitisation on girl child education, Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM), HIV/AIDS, Gender Based Violence (GBV) and child marriage as well as distribution of exercise books to support girl child education in the community.

The theme of the 2020 International Day of the Girl Child is, “Our Voice, Our Equal Future”.
