HEARING IMPAIRED GBV STAKEHOLDER , JOEL NYIBIAM, WANTS PROVISIONS FOR PERSONS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS.
The second Benue State Stakeholder’s Meeting on Gender Based Violence in Makurdi organised by office of the wife of the Governor and Founder, Eunice Spring of Life Foundation (ESLF) has adopted as resolution, a request by one of its hearing-impaired participants, Mr. Joel Nyibiam, that Special Needs professionals (such as sign language experts) be stationed in hospitals to attend to patients with special needs especially those with hearing and speech impairment.
Nyibiam who spoke through an interpreter, Thaddeus, demanded that an accessible centre should be made available where Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) especially those with hearing and speech impairment could report cases of Sexual and Gender Based Violence against them.
His submission, which was greeted with a resounding applause from fellow participants, was instantly adopted as a resolution of the meeting.
ESLF gives very special attention to Persons With Disabilities pursuant to the organisation’s passion to cater for the vulnerable as well as living up to the expectation of Sustainable Development Goal-10 to leave no one behind. For this reason, ESLF, has a special and active desk for Persons With Disabilities manned by a seasoned sign language expert.
