“SPEAK UP TO FIX SOCIETAL ILLS”, E.S.L.F. PROGRAMME MANAGER CHARGES YOUTHS AT THE PRESENTATION & LAUNCH OF HOPE IDANI’S NEW BOOK, “BREAKING THE SILENCE”.

“BREAKING THE SILENCE”.

The rich quality of the content of the book, “Breaking the Silence” written by Hope Enyi Idani, meets the set standard of books that should be read at the Annual Literacy Day organised by the Eunice Spring of Life Foundation (ESLF).

ESLF’s Programme Manager, Tine Agernor, disclosed this during the presentation and launch of the book in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

Mr. Agernor said the Foundation’s Annual Literacy Project usually brings children together every year to read books written by indigenous authors who write on salient societal issues asserting that “Breaking the Silence” qualifies to be read at the annual event.

He pointed out that ESLF promotes the culture of reading, addresses issues of Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) and supports enterprises that promote decent living in line with the Foundation’s vision of “building a society without barriers to decent living”.

The Programme Manager who averred that most societal problems were caused and fester due to the culture of keeping quiet, urged youths to speak up if offended and refused to be gagged by the entrenched culture of silence over ills perpetrated by adults. He, however, stressed that asserting oneself as such should not amount to disrespect for elders or constituted authorities. He recommended the book for everyone in the state and beyond.

Earlier, the book reviewer, Mrs. Abbis Agada, who described the book of six chapters dedicated to victims of sexual molestation as powerful, stressed that breaking the culture of silence was not only for individuals but for families as well and recommended the book for all growing and reading children, parents and schools.

E.S.L.F. identifies with all things that promote literacy and educate the society on ways to curb Sexual and Gender Based violence (SGBV) which “Breaking the Silence” speaks about.
