ESLF DOLES OUT 4.5 MILLION NAIRA PRIZE MONEY TO SCHOOLS IN BENUE FOR SCIENCE EXHIBITION.

The Eunice Spring of Life Foundation (ESLF) has given out a total prize money of Four Million and Five Hundred Thousand Naira to three secondary schools in Benue State for their outstanding performance at the Science Exhibition Contest during ESLF’s 4th Annual Literacy Project which held last year in Makurdi, the Benue State Capital.

While one of the schools, Princess Adeja International College, Gboko got the prize money of Two Million Naira (2,000,000) for clinching the first position at the Science Exhibition contest, NKST Secondary School, Adikpo which came second, got One Million and Five Hundred Thousand Naira (1,500,000) and Ameewua Model College, Adikpo got the sum of One Million Naira (1,000,000) for coming third.

Presenting the cheques to the management of the various schools, Programme Manager of ESLF, Mr. Tine Agernor, who congratulated the schools for excelling at the Foundation’s first-ever Science Exhibition Competition, said ESLF was committed to supporting, not just theoretical education, but also practical education, believing that this would translate to innovations that would help solve personal, family and societal problems.

Mr. Agernor said by delivering the prize money to the winning schools, ESLF had proven that it was an organisation that has integrity and keeps to its words. He acknowledged the financial support of well-meaning individuals and organisations, which, he said provided the prize money and other support for the Foundation’s humanitarian services.

The Programme Manager said ESLF was established in 2016 and focuses on five thematic areas of education, health, governance and economic empowerment with a bias for agriculture and urged schools not to relent in moulding students that would be useful and responsible members of the society.  

Mr. Agernor conveyed the message of the Founder which requested the students to be of good behaviour and shun all forms of vices.

Receiving the cheque of Two Million Naira on behalf of Princess Adeja International College, the Chairperson of the Board of Governors of the College, Lady Erdoo Amera, said she was pleased to have witnessed the noble gesture by Dr. Ortom through her Foundation thereby proving wrong the views of skeptics and naysayers who had opined that the prize money to the College would not be redeemed.

In their separate responses, the Principal of Princess Adeja International College, Dr. Sam Davis, that of NKST Secondary School, Adikpo, Mr. Terlumun Adi and their counterpart at Ameewua Model College, Adikpo, Mr. Chia Diyem, appreciated the Founder of ESLF and First Lady of Benue State for the Prize money and promised to continue toeing the path that made their schools win the prizes in the first place.

The events also witnessed quiz sessions that tested students’ knowledge on contemporary issues such as COVID 19 also known as Coronavirus and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and students were rewarded with instant prizes of exercise books to encourage their spirit of participation.

Other highlights included the inspection of scientific and technological innovations by the various schools including the Early Flood Detection Device, the Auto-Warning Triangle, the Fruit Plucker Device which won the first, second and third prizes respectively among other innovations that have the potentials of solving societal problems.

A number of students including Wealth Yansha, Mimi Swem of Princess Adeja International School, Isaac Tyav and Erica Gbamwuan of NKST Secondary School, Adikpo as well as Shadrach Aule and Chibuzor Ezema of Ameewua Model College, Adikpo said they felt very happy and proud that their schools had won the prizes adding that it was a great motivation for them that ESLF lived up to its promise by giving the winning schools their prize money.

Asides the Programme Manager, Mr Agernor, other members of the ESLF team included the Programme Officer, Education and Research, Mr. Iyam Liga, Monitoring and Evaluation Assistant, Vivian Ityokhumbul and the the Media Officer, Mr. Emmanuel Enenche Umele.
