ESLF ADVOCATES FOR WOMEN & CHILDREN EDUCATION AT FOMWAN EVENT.

The need for government and individuals to consciously map out strategic plans to educate women and children for maximum impact in homes and communities has again been stressed.

The Programme Manager, Eunice Spring of Life Foundation (ESLF), Mr. Tine Agernor, made this call at an event organised by the Federation of Moslem Women Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN), Benue State Chapter, to step down the knowledge gained from its Annual National Education programme which had earlier taken place at Osun State, Nigeria.

Mr. Agernor, called for the education of vulnerable children especially the girl child to close the gap of poor education and inequality among the womenfolk.

The Programme Manager who also stressed the need for unity across divides, posited that, “The earlier we learn that we are brothers and sisters and that, we can only grow to the extent that we are united, the better for us as a people”. He urged people to rise above their differences and have mutual love and understanding for one another.

Also speaking, Chairperson of FOMWAN Benue State, Dr. Maryam Yakubu, called on government to declare a state of emergency on education and admonished parents not to waste resources on material things but strive to give quality education to their children and wards.

On his part, the Chief Imam of Benue State, Dr. Habib Suleiman, who lamented the prevalence of uncatered-for ‘almajiri’ children in the country, called for a more proactive step to take education to them at their location instead of asking them to come to school which could be counterproductive and not guarantee their maximum response and participation in formal education.

Representatives of the Women Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (WOWICAN), Mrs. Abigail Girei, and the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Anzam Annas, commended FOMWAN’s effort in fostering education of women and cautioned against the danger of excluding a section of children from accessing formal education or skill acquisition training.

Several Islamic scholars spoke extensively on education-related topics proffering solutions that would reform and revive education for moslem women and almajiri children.

Education and research is one of the key thematic areas of ESLF and the organisation is poised to promote and support people and events that propagate it.
