ESLF Paints Benue Orange with Campaign Against SGBV

In observance of the 16 Days of Activism under the theme, Orange the World; Generation Equality Stands against Rape, Eunice Spring of Life Foundation (ESLF) in collaboration with the Office of the First Lady of Benue State, BENGONET Rural Development Initiative, Civil Society Organisations-Benue, International Federation of Female Lawyers with support from the United Nations Populations Fund (UNFPA), have embarked on a sensitization campaign across Benue State.

Target groups are; Internally Displaced Persons, Refugees, School Children, and the General Public. We are taking action to increase awareness and knowledge about issues of rape and other forms of violence against girls, women, and even boys.

So far, we have visited the IDP Camps in Daudu; Abagena; Gbajimba and Anyiin, where the campaign messages harped on rape including spousal rape, negative coping mechanisms such as sex for food, physical, emotional and psychological abuse, child labour as it exposes them to abuse.

We also visited Community Secondary School Wadata, Makurdi; Padopads Harmony Secondary School, Makurdi and Government Model School, Makurdi, where the students were enlightened about rape; risky behaviours to avoid and what to do when it occurs.

Participants have displayed enthusiasm as interactions highlighted the salient but silent issues that seemed to bother them over time.
