ESLF 6TH ANNUAL LITERACY PROJECT FEATURES “READ ALOUD”, SPELLING BEE, DONATION OF TEACHING & LEARNING MATERIALS TO HOST SCHOOL & AWARD OF EXCELLENCE.

Founder, Eunice Spring of Life Foundation (ESLF) and First Lady of Benue State, Dr. Eunice Ortom has affirmed that the Read Aloud session, which is a major component of ESLF’s Annual Literacy Project, is an effective way to promote education, improve children’s vocabulary and communicative skills as well as build their concentration and attention span.

Dr. Ortom stated this at an event to mark the 6th Annual Literacy Project of the Foundation which held at RCM Primary School, Poor, Makurdi during which Joy Abahi Amuh got the cash award of the Best Graduating WAEC student of Benue State origin in the 2020 examination year.

The First Lady maintained that the Read Aloud session also develops children’s listening skills and creates a bond between the reader and the listener. She explained that the informal and homely setting of the Read Aloud was created to make the children feel relaxed and enable them learn better.

Dr. Ortom charged teachers to encourage children to read, not just in school but at home, so they could develop that “love for life-long reading”.

Making his remarks, Group Managing Director, Benue Investment and Property Company (BIPC), Barr. Alex Adum, whose company partnered with ESLF in the implementation of this year’s literacy project, noted that the Foundation was doing a lot to support humanity in health, youth intervention, summits to encourage youth participation in business among others.

The BIPC boss said the event was the beginning of a long term partnership with ESLF of which this year’s partnership was particularly in the award of the cash prize to the Best Graduating WAEC student.

At this year’s Annual Literacy Project, Benue’s First Lady, Dr. Ortom, through her Foundation, ESLF:

 Funded the publishing and printing of over 200 copies of the story book, “The Inheritance” by James Atoba which was read by the ESLF Founder at the event.

 Donated white boards, white board markers, board marker pens, exercise books and a mat for the Early Childhood Care and Education Department (ECCED) of the school.

 Is taking concrete actions to facilitate the renovation, furnishing, equipping and perimeter fencing of the school.

 Partnered BIPC on presentation of the cash award of N500,000 to Joy Abahi Amuh, who emerged the Best Graduating Student of Benue State origin in the 2020 West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). The award was first announced last year during a visit by the BIPC GMD and top management of the company to the ESLF Founder, Dr. Ortom to mark her 48th birthday.

The event also witnessed a spelling bee competition between NKST Primary School, Yaikyor, Promise of God International Nursery and Primary School, Poor and RCM Primary School, Poor which won the competition.

Earlier in a welcome address, the Head Teacher, RCM Primary School, Poor, Mr. Anyila Tyolumum, said ESLF’S Sixth Annual Literacy Day helped in putting their school on the map of prominence and expressed hope that today’s event would be the beginning of building the school and its pupils for them to achieve their full potentials.

Highlights of the event included the presentation of a cheque of N500,000 to the Best WASSCE candidate from Benue State in 2020, Joy Abahi Amuh of St. Paul Secondary School, Otukpo who expressed profound gratitude to BIPC and ESLF for the cash prize, adding that it would be a big boost for her educational pursuit.
